SGL Carbon, a global industrial company headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, has announced plans to invest $4.5 million and add 35 jobs to its carbon composite manufacturing operation in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to expand production to include components for electric vehicles.
According to company officials, the production increase is aimed at boosting production of carbon composites for the electric vehicle sector. “Composite battery enclosures fit perfectly to the specific needs of modern e-car chassis,” SGL Carbon Inc. Vice President of operations Steve Swanson said in a statement. “Thus, with the ongoing enhancement of our Arkadelphia operations, we also support the great trend towards more e-mobility in the US. In addition, our facility produces a variety of carbon and glass fiber-reinforced products for a wide range of industrial applications within the automotive and aerospace industries as well as the energy sector.”
The production expansion is projected to be completed and operational by the end of 2021.
